   St. Vincent de Paul Society

Founded in May 1992, the St. John the Apostle conference of St. Vincent de Paul, which St. Charles works in conjunction with, visits the poor and suffering in the Bloomington area and responds to their needs.

The society accepts donations of household appliances and furniture. People in need are urged to call the society's answering service at 876-1974, ext. 301.

The international organization of more than 700,000 lay people in under Catholic sponsorship, but membership is not restricted to Catholics. Every Father's Day, the congregation at St. Charles offers a special collection to benefit the work of the Society.

The society meets at 7 p.m. two Thursdays each month at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church. Call 876-1974 ext. 301 for specific dates.


   InterLink

The InterLink volunteer caregiver program is a collaborate effort of local faith communities, PSVP, Bloomington Hospital, and HealthShare Inc.

The program matches volunteers with people in need, focusing on the elderly and disabled, in the Bloomington area.

Services include transportation to and from medical appointments, grocery shopping, light domestic chores, lawn/home maintenance, patient advocacy, phone reassurance, and bill paying.

St. Charles has a coordinator who will recruit volunteers and identify people in the community who can benefit from InterLink services.


   Hannah House

Under renovation at 812 North College Avenue, Hannah House is a complete maternity home for women and teens struggling with a crisis pregnancy who want an alternative to abortion.

Crisis Pregnancy Center, at 214 South College Avenue, sponsors Hannah House, which will shelter five to ten pregnant women as well as offer them counseling and other support.

Every Mother's Day, St. Charles has a special collection for Hannah House.


   United Ministries

MCUM provides needy families in Monroe County with a range of services, such as subsidized childcare and emergency food, clothing, and shelter. Donations from St. Charles are needed to sustain the food pantry, which distributes 55,000 pounds annually, and to provide support for childcare.
