![]() Much excitement is generated in September when the High Flyers Trapeze Team sets up its equipment on the school grounds for a three-day workshop. Middle school students who wish to do so are able to learn a variety of trapeze skills, including climbing, swinging, and catching. The goals here are to develop confidence, to confront natural nervousness, and to experience success in a non-traditional activity, increasing both physical and emotional strength. Participating students present a performance of their new skills to the entire school on the final day of their workshop. |
The physical health and development of our students is an integral part of our endeavor to teach and guide them in all essential areas of growth. Physical Education and its relationship to health are also emphasized because we know that they are key factors in the child’s success in learning.
The goals of the physical education program are:
- to equip our students with exercise skills and
knowledge that can guide them to the adoption of a
healthy lifestyle;
- to increase students’ stamina, strength,
flexibility, and movement;
- to teach them the skills that will enable them
to participate in a variety of sports activities;
and
- to guide them in developing good sportsmanship, cooperation, and honesty in the sports they play.
In addition to the regular P.E. schedule, middle school students may also participate in extra-curricular sports such as track, cross-country, volleyball, basketball, football, and swimming and diving. Their teams compete with local public and archdiocesan schools.
St. Charles holds a Field Day with a wide selection of races and sports activities every May. This is organized by the fifth grade students.
