Homework

Why I Assign Homework: Homework is a valuable tool in helping students make the most of their experience in school. I give homework because it is useful in reinforcing what has been learned in class, prepares students for upcoming lessons, teaches responsibility and helps students develop positive study habits.

When I Assign Homework: Homework will be assigned Monday through Thursday nights and occasionally on weekends. Homework should take no more than 30 minutes to complete, not including studying for tests and working on projects. Spelling tests will be given each Friday. I will give students at least one week’s notice to study for tests. Students should read at least 15 minutes nightly in a book of their choice. If homework is consistently taking longer than 30 minutes, please contact me.

Students’ Homework Responsibilities: Students are expected to write their homework assignments in their assignment book. I expect students to do their best job on their homework. I expect homework to be legible and written in pencil unless otherwise told. I expect homework to be turned in on time.

Late Assignments: Homework is due at the beginning of class. Any time after that, it is considered late. Late homework will receive a grade reduction of 10%. If homework is consistently late, students will be required to complete a homework think sheet and possibly lose student privileges.

If a student is absent, it is the STUDENT'S RESPONSIBILITY to see me for make-up work. Absent students will be allowed the same amount of time to work on their homework.

My Homework Responsibilities: Homework assignments will be posted on my website. I will check all homework and return it in a timely manner. I will give students encouragement and offer helpful feedback when they do their homework. Graded homework will be in either students' binder or the Friday folder.
